Good morning! It’s Monday, November 3rd.

National Sandwich Day.

I don’t care about that.

But I do want to tell you that we are in November, which means we are officially in the territory of SNAP and WIC benefits running out of money and recipients seeing delays because Republicans have opted to not dip into a multi-billion dollar deserve, meant for exactly this moment, in hopes of forcing Democrats to vote yes on a spending bill that would take health insurance away from 20 million Americans.

You’re not wrong to feel overwhelmed. It’s overwhelming. But if you can, if you’re able, consider a donation to No Kid Hungry.org, where $50 can provide up to 500 meals for a kid struggling with hunger.

And now, the news.

Trian Stabbing

-via BBC

Starting in London, where ten people were taken to the hospital after a mass stabbing incident on Saturday night in a train.

Two people were arrested. The attack was an isolated attack and, as of this recording, police have not revealed details about the suspects or their motives. However, police have said there’s nothing to suggest that this was a terrorist attack.

Of the ten people transported to the hospital, nine were believed to have life-threatening injuries. Four of those folks have already been released, which is great.

Trump Threatens Action in Nigeria

-via The Independent and Al Jazeera

Here’s a headline you may have missed over the weekend if you don’t check your phone news notifications every 15 seconds.

So in other words, if you’re normal…

“Trump says he’s ordered the Pentagon to ‘prepare for possible action’ in Nigeria as he continues to accuse the nation of violence against Christians.”

What, uh… what’s going on here?

Here’s what’s going on here.

Here’s what’s happening.

Hey! That’s the name of the show! That’s neat.

Ted Cruz, uh oh! Bad start! Ted Cruz has introduced a bill saying that, since 2009, 50,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria. Additionally, he says 2,000 schools and 18,000 churches were destroyed. He blames all of this on Islamist armed groups – but never cites any sources.

Instead, Tedward says, “It is the result of decisions made by specific people, in specific places, at specific times – and it says a great deal about who is lashing out now that a light is being shone on these issues.”

Have you ever, once, done your homework dude?

“The United States knows who those people are, and I intend to hold them accountable.”

Who are they?!

He never names names!

So he introduced a bill in September to target those who facilitate crimes against Christians.

And this is obviously right up Trump’s alley because now he gets to combine racism and Christian Nationality to say: “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”

And to be clear, the Nigerian government does not deny its security problem. However, they say Christians are not being targeted. Instead, they are in a war against Hako Haram, a rebellion in the northeast, as well as gangs in the northwest.

But classic Trump – instead of trying to have a conversation that might, hear my out, lead to something actually being solved, he’s just going to tweet his way through it, threaten to invade a country and not even involve that country’s leader, who may actually welcome the help. Or at least a conversation.

Another Boat Attack

-via The Hill

You should know that, in response to Trump Temu Tweeting that the Pentagon should prepare to move into Nigeria, Pete Hegseth said, “yes sir.”

Is that… oh no. Is that how they relay orders? I thought they the public Signal group chat was bad. This might be worse!

Anyway, speaking of little Petey Hegseth (not yet his official Here’s What’s Happening nickname but you know that dude hates being called Petey)… late Saturday night, three people were killed as yet another alleged drug-smuggling boat was struck by US forces.

“Three male narco-terrorists were aboard the vessel during the strike, which was conducted in international waters.”

Okay, well – again, “international waters” makes this legally murky, and if these were, in fact, narco-terrorists, show your math.

They have yet to, even once, show proof of how they know these are drug-smuggling boats. I’m not saying it’s impossible! I’m not saying they’re not a threat. I’m not denying that drugs are a threat. I’m saying no one gets to do murder on vibes and until you show proof, the only person that has carried out a crime is the person ordering hits on boats.

Candy Bucket

-via The Guardian, The Athletic, and Archived Truth Social

And finally, I’m calling this segment – the candy bucket.

First… I’ve mentioned Marjorie Taylor Greene a couple times this week, and praised her for calling out her party. And I stand by the idea that people are complex and we can praise people for making the right choice when they do, in hopes they will see that getting attention for being good feels good and maybe they’ll do it more often, but we can also still call them out for everything else they’re doing.

And on that note… On Friday, as a guest on Bill Maher, Greene said she believes aliens are fallen angels. Well, they could be. COULD BE. And then she said the devil and demons are real. So, we all have different ideas. I can’t make fun of the devil and demons thing, because that’s her religion and just because it’s not what I believe, I can’t make fun of it. The alien thing is just confusing because where are angels falling from that they then become aliens? And then what?

More relevantly, in the interview she was asked about her Jewish space lasers comment and she said she didn’t know it was antisemitic because she didn’t know the Rothschild family (who she referenced in the tweet. She never said Jewish space lasers. She talked about the Rothschild family), she didn’t know they were Jewish. Now, when I first saw that, I was like… Mmm… Rothschild? Really? But she said she hadn’t had exposure to Jewish people prior to being in Congress.

I can’t say if that’s true or not about her, nor can I say what she’s learned. But I think it’s important to remember that education, as well as multicultural and multireligious exposure, is also a type of privilege that I wish more kids would have access to and more adults would allow themselves access to.

And this definitely has to go in the candy bag because what on earth… on the 29th, Donald Trump for some reason Trump took to his ironically titled Truth Social to Temu Tweet: South Carerdddd. “C-a-r-e-r-d-d-d-d”

Listen – we’re not going to sink to his level, because other people exist in this world and are also in cognitive decline. Which I do believe he is in. It’s impossible to decline. I’m no doctor, so I’m not going to diagnose him, but there’s clearly something going on. So I don’t want to make other people who are, or may love someone who is in, cognitive decline, feel bad by me making fun of Trump. Does that make sense? Like, there’s so much to make fun of Trump for, we’re not sinking to something like that. But here’s what we do have to make fun of…

The whole reason that Truth Social exists is because he did incited violence when he insurrection. And, at the time, that was against Twitter’s rules and regulations. Now, of course, they’re like, “the more the merrier!” But at the time, they didn’t like it.

So he was kicked off all social media outlets and, in response, he built Truth Social. This is a website basically for him.

At the same time, a big deal on Twitter, was that you couldn’t edit posts. Even Trump hated this missing feature. He talked about that on Twitter. So then, and I’ve talked about this before… every time he posts something like this the first question is: how are you our president? Are you well? No, obviously not but for real, what is the medical state of the president?

And then the second question is: how is he so dumb that when he had the chance to build he own website, he forgot to add the one feature he very clearly wanted on Twitter? To be able to edit Temu Tweets? At least to allow his account to do it? He deleted the tweet, but like… you didn’t have to. You could have edited it and just started over fresh.

He’s… the worst. At every angle.

And in Sports by Kim…

In a bonus baseball ending to a World Series that broke records, including an 18-inning game, the Dodgers have become the first team to win the Series back-to-back in 25 years.

This pains me, greatly, as a Padres fan.

The Dodgers have never even thrown a pitch that I’ve rooted for.

That being said…

I love this city. This year, we have overcome devastating fires, an authoritarian government that sent its brown shirts to kidnap our neighbors, and now polite Canadians with their baseball skills.

Ain’t nothing bringing down Los Angeles!

And finally… Tomorrow is Election Day. There is a very good chance you live in a place with an election tomorrow. If you’re new to the show, Election Day for the show is a fun one! And because I record at night, I’m kind of the only show in town that’ll have your results for Wednesday morning. This will also be the first Election Day episode on YouTube… Not sure what the graphics will look like yet, but you might want to check that out. Might be different, might be the same. We have no idea!

But that’s tomorrow. Between today and tomorrow…

Please – cast your ballot. Get out there and use that cherubic voice of yours.

Nothing is predetermined. Nothing gets decided until the voters do.

This administration chooses to be who they are. And who they are are spiteful, mean, and dangerous. And on Tuesday, November 4th, we get to tell them, and the world, that that is not who this country is.

Go vote.

It’ll make you feel strong and powerful.

And that’s it. That’s the news.

Hey, I’ve officially been saying that for four years! I just figured that out. If I were better at this, I’d have been better prepared, but I just happened to look at my files and realized my first show was November 1st, 2021.

And after four years, I’m actually trying to get people to listen. What a business mind I have.

I’m proud of Zazz, who so innocently asked me to tell her the news, and now here we are. And my friends and family who have listened to the show from the start (and frankly, those who haven’t but still put up with me having very limited hours for them).

And every single person who is listening right now, because staying informed is how we win.

And because it’s an anniversary, I feel like I have to loop in the classics… Kelly Clarkson, Hannah Waddingham, Leslie Knope, Amy Poehler… are there more? Mandy Moore! Are there more? I think that’s it. I don’t know, honestly, this part is usually too off the cuff and rambling chaos. Why do you listen? I appreciate it! Please never stop, but… you are so brave!

And sandwiches, because they have layers.

Because I already said I was proud of you but my pride for you grows and grows and grows so I’m more proud that I was just a couple of seconds ago when I started this sentence even… I’m proud of you.

Whoops! I’m even more proud now!
