Good morning! It’s Friday, May 22nd.
National Boss Babe Day
Which is great because I got in trouble yesterday by, ironically, my previous boss (who I also think might still be my boss? I’m not sure. I just always feel like she’s my boss) for saying “the girls are fighting” in reference to Trump and Netanyahu.
Now, I maintain that it was not sexist to use the phrase, which got its roots from Black drag communities but it’s now popularized so whether I specifically can use it is another conversation however in that context, it’s used to flip the script and call men what they call women – overly emotional girls. Men didn’t popularize the phrase. If they didn’t, you better believe I wouldn’t be using it.
However, the idea of “you throw like a girl” “you hit like a girl” “come on, man up” all of that? First of all, it’s 2026, have an original thought. Also, if I have to see one more video of some absolutely medium dude saying he thinks he could beat a professional female athlete at any sport, my head is going to spin around so fast it’s going to helicopter off of my shoulders.
National Boss Babe Day.
She’s not bossy, she’s the boss.
And now, the news.
Update: Iran
-via AP News
Starting in Iran where the House said phew! That was a close one! We almost had to say no to Trump!
After the Democrats scheduled a vote on a war powers resolution of their own, House Republicans, realizing they didn’t have the votes to block it, did what any great representative of the people would do…
They went on vaca!
House Republican Leader Steve said it’s because he wanted to make sure all House members have a chance to have their voices heard. (But only the ones we like and can convince to be on our side, of course)
Little Mikey J had nothing to say as he ran out of the House. Closing the House to make sure nothing gets done because he doesn’t want to have to do hard things? Well that’s a Mike Johnson specialty baybee.
Women’s Museum Future Unknown
-via AP News
Before they left town, the House did manage to do something good (and I had to read this multiple times because I wasn’t sure if it was possible – I really just assumed all Republicans would fall in line with Trump here but somehow a few didn’t!)
So in DC, there’s supposed to be a Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum built on the National Mall. Cause you know women… we’re like, hey, we don’t need rights, a museum is better actually!
The alt for that was: cause you know women… always making history, breaking records, inventing things, discovering things. It’s like… enough already! Let’s the men try at least!
Anyway, so that was going to be built but at the last minute the bill was changed to say that no trans people would be allowed to be included in any exhibits.
So I guess they weren’t going to talk about TB, X-rays, or emails? It’s thanks to the research of Dr. Alan Hart actually one of the first people undergo gender-affirming surgery in America, was not only an epidemiologist who studied tuberculosis but his research also led to the development of mobile X-ray screening programs. Mary Ann Horton created the code that allows emails to have attachments. Additionally, Lynn Conway invented the design rules that allow microprocessors to become very, very small. Odds are astronomically high that you’re listening to this podcast on a smartphone or laptop… two things that wouldn’t exist without that invention.
So okay, there’s that.
Additionally, in general, there was a ban on a “diversity” of views. Which could be mean anything, but I think we all know what that means.
It also gave Trump the final say on where the museum would be located. Which is such a weird add-on. He’s so weird – why does he have time for this?? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want him focusing on the stuff he’s focusing on either but why does he need the final say on where a museum is going to be?
In the end, it was rejected on a 204-216 vote, with Democratic House Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez of New Mexico saying, “It was a simple bill. You kind of ruined it with your trans obsession and your culture wars.”
Don’t worry, Republican House Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York wasn’t just going to take a comment like that! She won’t be treated that way! She said: “Perhaps the party that is opposing a women’s history museum on the National Mall because they want to have transgender exhibits — maybe they are the ones who are trans obsessed.”
Got em!
No dude… democrats just want trans people, and all people really, to just be able to have access to healthcare and clean air and good schools and enough money to get by. It’s not a wild concept. You guys are being absolute freaks.
And, quite frankly, as a woman… I don’t want this museum if it’s not going to include trans women. First of all, because trans women are women. But also because – unlike these small… minded. I was going to say small-minded, relax little weirdos, I am confident that the world knows what we, as a gender, have brought to the world. A museum isn’t going to be the thing that does it. Moreover, it’s not like any of these guys are going to see the museum and think: maybe we should give them bodily autonomy or pay equity.
I also don’t want a museum that has Trump’s oddly bruised little grub hands anywhere near it.
Save your museum. I’d like one eventually but only if it includes all women. And a diversity of ideas because we’re smart enough to handle that. Sorry if that concept is too much for others.
In the meantime… F you. Pay me.
Epstein’s Assistant Speaks to House
-via ABC News
Big day for a chamber of Congress that went on vaca to let Trump do war! Because also on Thursday, Sarah Kellen, who was a longtime personal assistant of Jeffrey Epstein’s, spoke with the House Oversight Committee.
Kellen says she was recruited when she was 21 (this poor woman… she got married, and then divorced, but got married at 17 and then when she got divorced she was kicked out of her church – she says that made her the perfect target for Epstein.
She said it was months of unpaid labor and then, once the abuse started, so did the paychecks. Kellen has been a part of criminal investigations in the past but never charged because she has always alleged that Epstein sexually abused her.
In her statement on Thursday, she said: "He groomed me, sexually and psychologically abused me, controlled me, manipulated me, dominated me, and gaslit me, until I could no longer tell which thoughts were mine, and which were his.”
And following that (I’ll remind you, this started when she was 21), Republican James Comer said: "I believe she was a victim now."
Oh. I’m glad you believe her NOW.
Kellen gave three new names to the committee, who said they will be releasing the transcript as soon as possible.
Comer also said: “We want to see men -- we don't care who they are -- held accountable for terrible, unlawful criminal behavior."
Yeah man, we do too. Just wait until you hear about the guy in the White House. You’re about to be soooo mad!
And that’s it. That’s the news.
I’m going to let it be the news. Because the thing that’s happening right now is that everyone’s still talking about Trump’s absolutely insanely corrupt slush fund. The DNC just dropped their autopsy of the 2024 campaign saying the White House failed Kamala (ya think? Among other issues, yes duh). And the House leaving so that Trump never has to get any pushback ever is the other big headline.
I’m not going to cover the same headline 50 days in a row unless there’s actually news to go with it.
We can just have a Friday and a weekend.
I’m proud of women. Not all of them! Some of them are bad. And that’s feminism. Feminism is recognizing that some women are bad. Lauren Bobert, for example.
But more than 50 days in a row of the same headline… because you’ve never bored me before… I’m proud of you.
