Good morning! It’s Monday, June 29th.
National Waffle Iron Day
Leslie Knope, is that you?
And now, the news.
Venezuela Earthquake
Actually, I’m not even really doing an episode today because… look, if you want an episode every single Monday - $3 million dollars a year. Or I walk.
But I do want to update you on the earthquake in Venezuela.
As I mentioned in Friday’s episode, nearly every single number you don’t want to have rise, has risen.
As of this recording, at least 1,450 people have died, 3,150 more are injured, 12,721 have been displaced, and 774 buildings have collapsed.
Just under 50,000 people are still unaccounted for.
A number to start wrapping you head around, although how do you start wrapping your head around something like this, is 10,000.
That is the number of deaths that the U.S. Geological Survey believes these dual earthquakes will surpass. If that happens, it will be one of Latin America's deadliest of the last century.
I’m putting a link in show notes to two places –
Project HOPE as well as a GoFundMe for the I Love Venezuela Foundation
Venezuela is a beautiful country with fantastic people, and they were even generous enough to give us one of my very favorite people (and she doesn’t even listen to this podcast – that’s how you know that’s true). And in the midst of this horrific tragedy, they have a government that they can’t trust.
Right now, there are people in Venezuela trying to help and saying the government is slow to help.
But there are people there.
There are ways to help.
And if you can, if you’re able, every and any dollar you’re able to give can help search and rescue efforts as well as ongoing aid.
This was the last thing this country needed.
So like I said – the links will be in show notes.
If you can’t give money, you can pass the link around.
There is zero doubt in my mind that, if the time came, they’d do the same for us.
And that’s it. That’s… heh. Not really an episode. That’s the couple minutes.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a real episode.
I’m proud of Venezuela and all the international rescue workers that have also flown in to help.
But more than waffles.
See how I tricked you there.
But you also have pockets for syrup… I’m proud of you. 6yyhJ2
