Good morning! It’s Monday, July 6th.

International Kissing Day

A whole day for smooches. CONSENTUAL smooches

Cute.

And now, the news.

Coney Island Shooting

-via ABC News

We start how we start here in America, with eight people injured after a masked man, whose identity the police are still working on, opened fire during a family 4th of July BBQ on Coney Island.

The suspect is still on the loose.

New Jersey Heat

-via AP News and NPR

Moving to weather on the tens and twos.

In New Jersey, at least 19 people have died since Thursday in heat-related deaths as the state continues to suffer under a heat dome that has given the Garden State what Gov. Sherrill says is, “the hottest stretch we’ve seen in over 14 years.”

On Thursday, LaGuardia Airport broke the 1966 record high of 101 by THREE degrees, setting a new high of 104.o09

Newark’s high was 105.

And it’s been relentless, with even the lows being high. In Atlantic City, the morning low was 80 degrees.

I asked the voice of the tristate area, Ashley Dylan Zazzarino, if she had an official comment on the heat and she said: “lol I’m too hot.”

And in Colorado, the Aspen Acres Fire is now at more than 86,000 acres (as of this recording) and is finally 13% contained. However, the area is experiencing thunderstorms and high winds, which could put a damper on the success the firefighters are finally having out there. That’s one of the three big fires burning in the state. The Ferris Fire is at 42,000 acres and 7% contained, and The Gold Mountain Fire is at 25,000 acres and 0% containment.

Trump’s 250th Speech – God Tried, at Least

-via AxiosThe Hill, and NBC News

Speaking of weather – on Saturday, Trump gave his 4th of July speech and it was all about him. Shocking, I know.

Look, I did the thing in Friday’s episode.

And as I say all the time, he is not the sun, so I’m not going to cover his lame speech. But I will say this, God tried to prevent it.

First there was his July 3rd speech. That one took place at Mt. Rushmore and it was delayed because of ping-pong-sized hail. The speech was delayed by two hours.

Then on the 4th, that speech in DC on the National Mall was delayed by more than an hour because of thunderstorms.

That’s after the awful heat attendees waited in.

Leading up to the 4th, Trump kept threatening a “really long speech.”

Which is so… who is this guy??

“By the way, on July 4th, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m going to go, and I’m going to make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything.”

Yeah, we already know some of the stuff you can do. We don’t like it.

Anyway, Mr. Can-Do-Anything spoke for 37 minutes.

It was all about how apparently we’re about to be a communist country because democratic socialists are winning the primaries (because he doesn’t know how anything works so I guess he just thinks those two very different systems of government are the same), how he hasn’t been treated well under the justice system “but we won’t get into that,” (oh, we can get into it, old man), said he should call his 2nd term his 3rd term (hinting that he won the 2020 election because he is a loser that can’t wrap his head around the fact that he lost which is crazy because he’s a lifelong loser), but then said he wouldn’t call his 2nd term his 3rd term because he doesn’t “want any controversy.”

He also used the speech to push the SAVE America Act further.

4th of July. 250th anniversary of our founding documents.

This buffoon’s out here pushing voter disenfranchisement and joking about a 3rd term.

I’ll give Republican voters this… they know how to pick em!

McMorrow Out

-via The Hill

Last year, Mallow McMorrow, the Michigan state Senator running for the state’s open US Senate seat, was, by all regards, the presumptive nominee.

But that was a year ago.

A year later, on Sunday, she announced that she was dropping out of the three-way race with one more left before the primary, in a fairly shocking move.

I mean, her polling was down so it was a shock that she dropped out but it’s a sign of where things are headed for the Democratic party.

And that, why the way, is a good thing. Because it’s not just about the democratic socialism of it all. What it IS about, however, is candidates being brave enough to say what they really care about. Run on things that matter to the people they want to represent.

A party working to get votes by actually trying to help people, instead of cheating through voter disenfranchisement.

Interesting choice.

National Guard Shooting

-via AP News

In Memphis, where the National Guard is still… there, a man has been shot and killed, and people are trying to understand what happened.

It started around 4 AM on Sunday when the National Guard troops responded, with police, to reports of gunshots.

They then began to chase the man, identified as 20-year-old Tyrin Johnson, and then shot him twice in the chest, with the troops saying Johnson turned towards them with the gun.

The shooting is being investigated. Johnson died at the scene.

Trump Ruins Soccer

-via NY Times

And ending with some footie news, but filed under… this guy ruins everything!!

So, Team USA is actually doing well in the World Cuppa. It’s great news! Folarin Balogun is a big reason for that. He’s the top scorer for Team USA in the World Cuppa.

On July 1st he was red-carded, which means you’re out for the rest of the game and the following game, minimum. It can go up from there, but minimum it’s the rest of the game plus one.

Every game counts in the Cuppa. The game where Balogun was red-carded was in the round of 32. Since Team USA one, it advanced them to the round of 16, where he should have not been able to play as well.

However, in this case, as soon as the red card happened, senior Trump administration officials, such as Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Andrew Giuliani, who serves as the executive director of the White House task force on the World Cup, started working with lawyers to get the red card appealed.

Even though that’s incredible against the rules.

But remember that this is still the FIFA that gave Trump the FIFA Peace Prize because Trump is doing too many wars and insurrection and sexual assault to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize. So instead they invented this prize and gave it to him.

The US Soccer officials agreed that the red card should never have been given because officials used slow-motion replay.

Even though that’s something that literally happens all the time. All. The. Time.

Then Trump got on the phone with FIFA president Gianni Infantino and asked him to, you know, just find the missing votes. No no, wait sorry that was a different cheating phone call.

He asked him to overturn the red card.

Is there no where this man will not cheat??

And now this guy is going to be able to play in today’s game!

And it doesn’t matter what happens for the rest of the tournament… let’s say Balogun has his worst match ever. He contributes nothing.

Every single match for the rest of the time Team USA is in the Cuppa will have a giant asterisk on it.

And it’s not even about him! Let’s say Team USA doesn’t want to be a part of this and they keep him off the pitch today. That would be shocking, but let’s just say…

Any time a call is made in Team USA’s favor, why wouldn’t these teams look at those calls sideways?

Nobody is helped in this situation. Whatever deal was cut, whatever offer was offered, whatever Infantino got out of this – there was one winner here and one winner only, and it was him.

And that’s it. That’s the news.

I’m proud of people who don’t cheat.

Why does he do this? He does this with everything! He doesn’t even like sports!! Golf, yes a little bit. But nothing else!!

He ruins everything!

Honestly, whatever – take the Olympics away from us. We don’t deserve it while he’s here.

I’m proud of smooches. But more than smooches, because you’re also fun… I’m proud of you.
