Good morning! It’s Monday, September 21st.
Yom Kippur. (Well, at sundown. So like… Good morning it’s National Pecan Cookie Day. But in a few hours…)
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day in Judaism, calling for 25 hours of fasting, intensive prayer, and repentance.
And then? They party.
No no – the day after is just like… okay well back to it now.
Only between 2 and 2.4% of Americans are Jewish, but boy oh boy could a whole lot more of them use a Yom Kippur.
And now, the news.
ICE Agent Shoots Man

Let’s start in Austin, Texas, where an ICE officer shot a man in the torso. The man is in serious but stable condition as of this recording.
The incident occurred at a traffic stop and didn’t involve Austin police.
Details are sparse; however, local media reported they found a blue car at the intersection, with bullets in the rear passenger window and damage to the passenger-side door.
Let me guess, let me guess… the car was being weaponized against the officer?
Following whatever happened with the car, there was apparently a small foot chase.
One can only imagine why someone would run away from an officer in a situation like that.
The man shot is an immigrant from Venezuela. His citizenship status has not been announced. The immigration attorney representing the family has not been able to see the victim, saying, “My understanding is that he is in this hospital, and they are not allowing us up to see him because ICE is blocking.”
Austin’s mayor was asked where the ICE officer who shot at the car is, and this was his response: "We do not know that. But my hope would be that an agent that's involved in an officer-involved shooting would not leave the city. Certainly not leave the state."
Uh oh!
So like I said… still need a lot more details and, you know, for the ICE officer not to have left the state.
White House Bans Press
Citing badittudes and “not behaving as good faith journalists,” the Trump administration has banned reporters from CNN, MS Now, and Politico.
Notice he didn’t say Here’s What’s Happening? Boom! Got em!
(What’s that joke? That I want him to like me? GROSS)
Even Fox News contributors were mad.
Not Fox News itself. Fox News was like… have you ever considered licking a boot? Because outside of the times we’ve been sued for hundreds of millions for lying, it’s working out pretty well!
Speaking of bootlickers, Wyoming’s Sen. Barrasso said he doesn’t think this is a First Amendment violation because, “the press has an obligation to report fairly.”
Adding, “He was banned from Twitter. He was banned from Facebook, and I didn’t see people come to his defense. So it goes both ways. The press has an obligation to report fairly, and the president doesn’t see it happening that way.”
Yeah! You got that? If you don’t feel sad that Trump was kicked off social media because he did insurrection, and then you have the gall to report on the bad things the president is factually doing… well that’s just unfair in the president’s eyes. And if that’s the case?
You’re outta here!
But then he also said this: “The bottom line on all of this is: This is not going to have an impact on an election 44 days from now.”
And I don’t believe that’s true.
Why? Because I believe voters know they deserve better than to be led by a party that blindly follows this dinkus who is so emotionally fragile that he is violating the constitush, simply because he got his feelings hurt. And instead of doing things to improve your life, he’s doing things like this.
Really embarrassing.

WB/Paramount Merger

Talks continue in the Ellison’s attempt to only have one media company, as Paramount attempts to take over WB.
Right now the big question is… will California’s AG Rob Bonta cave, since the thing currently holding up the deal is an antitrust lawsuit brought by a 12-state coalition.
Last week, Bonta began encouraging a deal in the suit.
Not everyone’s on board.
If a settlement deal is not reached, the antitrust case will go to trial in California next March.
With Paramount already threatening to leave the state over this deal, that further delay could potentially kill the deal altogether.
Oh no….
I hate for the deal to not go through…
The problem is that people, like LA mayor Karen Bass, says that if this deal doesn’t go through, Paramount will leave the state and there go the jobs. Bass vowed to “fight like hell” to keep entertainment jobs in LA.
Okay well if this deal does go through, that will also cause jobs to leave. And also, Bass, you’ve been mayor for four years and while certainly the strikes and fires weren’t your fault… where are our jobs? And houses? And like… lots of other stuff.
So if the choices are truly either… one company to rule them all, or multiple companies and Paramount says they’ll leave California but the physical lot stays in Los Angeles, maybe to be purchased by someone else, allowing productions to stay in LA and shoot there, and likely the productions already shooting in LA will stay because moving the production would cost more money than they’d want to spend…
There should be no deal that consolidates companies, jobs, and voices.
In the meantime… Bass, you’re in a serious reelection campaign. If you want my vote, show me what you’d do with it.

A fairly quiet weekend but keep an eye out this week for… Trump signing an executive order to establish a board that would prevent NIH grants that would fund things Trump thinks are too woke, Trump’s establishment of an AI czar, and Mamdani meeting with Trump today.
So prepare for a silly week.
