Good morning! It’s Friday, June 13th.

Spooky!

National Sewing Machine Day!

That’s fun.

And now, the news.

Air India

-via BBC

Starting with news out of India that broke early Thursday morning when a London-bound Air India plane crashed just seconds after takeoff.

The plane crashed into a medical school.

There were 242 passengers on board – all but one passenger have died.

Responders are not sure if the bodies they have pulled from the rubble are all from the plane, or if it’s a mix of people from the plane and from the ground.

Just an absolutely horrific story.

No Kings

Here in Los Angeles, things remain calm. Not because we’re under military occupation… which we still are. No one worry! Well, worry because an American city is under military occupation but you know what I mean. But things remain calm because we were never not calm to begin with. We were protesting because you were trying to take our neighbors.

You’re still trying to take our neighbors.

We actually hate it.

But you know what I mean.

The biggest thing today was, of course, the hearing challenging this military occupation. As you may recall, the state is suing the administration because we said hey, please don’t send in troops and Trump was like no I actually am gonna because I… am bored and also want to do fascism.

The Senior US District Judge hinted that he did not believe the military occupation would be helpful for LA’s ICE enforcement, calling it, “somewhat speculative.”

He also said, “I don’t want to talk about the Marines because I’m not quite sure what they’ll do. I think what they will do is follow the law.”

I think so too. Genuinely. I do genuinely believe the troops will follow the law. My concern is that Trump will soon allow them to do more with the law. Loosen the constraints.

Ultimately, the judge ruled that Trump had unlawfully federalized the troops and needed to send them home, but a ruling from the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals put that on pause with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

Yeah… let’s not rush.

Prior to the hearing, when asked if he would follow a federal judge’s ruling that the National Guard or Marines are not supposed to be here in Los Angeles and should leave… Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dodged the question!

“What I will tell you is my job right now is to ensure the troops that we have in Los Angeles are capable of supporting law enforcement.”

Okay, that’s fine. But could you also make sure they’re capable of supporting law enforcement by following the law by following a judge’s orders?

What are we doing here??

While we remain under military occupation, one of our US Senators, Alex Padilla, attended a press conference held by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. She held it here in LA.

Padilla had a question so he introduced himself, made it very clear that he was a senator, said he had a question for Noem then asked: “Because the fact of the matter is, a half a dozen violent criminals that you’re rotating onto your—,” and we’ll never know what the question is because at that point he was aggressively pushed out of the room.

And. Are you ready.

Outside of the room, he was forced to get onto his knees and handcuffed.

A US Senator.

For asking a question at a press conference.

He was not detained or arrested.

But he was forcibly removed, then handcuffed – for asking a question.

At a press conference.

And while all of this is happening here in Los Angeles, there is something super annoying that’s going to happen tomorrow. I’ve been dreading talking about it, to be honest, because it’s such a waste of money, so lame, and, more than anything else, it’s so embarrassing!

Before I talk about it – I want you to think about the most annoying birthday celebration you’ve ever had to go to. Maybe it was too expensive. Or it had a theme. Or you had to travel for it. I don’t know, it could have been anything.

What if I told you… tomorrow, a 79-year-old man will top all of that?

On Saturday, Trump is throwing a whole Army parade and festival, which he claims is for the 250th birthday of the Army (but you know! You just know! That has nothing to do with it), for his 79th birthday.

The festival has been planned for two years. That’s not a part of the part that’s annoying. The Army should be celebrated! Our military should be celebrated. I believe that! Go back through any episode of that show and you will never find me saying otherwise. I am quite literally under a military occupation right now and I still believe our military members should be celebrated.

The chump in charge of them? No thanks.

And I can’t even feel bad about it.

But the military parade! The Kim Jung Un style military parade – that was added when Trump started his second term.

That’s the part that is absurd.

Also, he doesn’t respect the troops. Has called them suckers and losers. Literally paid to get out of serving in Vietnam.

And now this is the guy who’s going to be there, our little ties-too-long dictator-in-chief.

How is the entire country not furious? How does he have so many people fooled?

Do you see why I didn’t want to talk about this? Because it’s annoying!

There will, of course, be protests. Tons of them, actually. June 14th is No Kings Day. They’re not protesting the military, even though some people/networks will try to twist it that way. They’re protesting Trump.

And in case you’re looking for an exact reason why, how about this: Trump has already promised “very heavy force” for those who protest his birthday party.

“For those people who want to protest, they’re going to be met with very big force.”.

Adding, “I haven’t even heard about a protest, but, you know, this is people that hate our country.”

First of all – you can’t say “this is” when you’re talking about a group of people because “this” implies singular! When you say things like that and then I need to quote you, it makes my document very annoyed with me because your grammar is terrible!

Also… “I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.”

James Baldwin.

It is our First Amendment right to protest you.

We cannot threaten you. We cannot put you in danger. We cannot put others in danger. But we can protest you. That is our right. And you better believe we will and ironically part of the reason people are going to do so is because you’re upset about the protests. See how that works? It just goes on and on.

We don’t hate our country. We love this country. We want better for it. We love it. We respect it enough to hate what you are doing to it.

Anyway.

As for me, I will be in the desert. Because I fear for my mental sanity if I do not see the stars at night.

Oh hey, by the way, Rand Paul was invited to that picnic on Thursday after all. Immediately following that, Paul posted a picture of his infant grandson wearing a MAGA hat on Twitter. So… we’ll be okay.

Trump Pulls Legal Status for Immigrants

-via AP News

But lest you think Trump’s go on get attitude is only for people who are currently in America without legal citizenship…

On Thursday Trump announced that hundreds of thousands of people from Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans with temporary legal status have that had legal status revoked and must now leave.

He says they’ll be given $1,000 to do so.

I want you to ask yourself. Really ask yourself – can you leave your life, move out of your home and get you and your family across the world and into a new life with $1,000?

The cruelty is the point.

As is the chaos.

He’s not even saying why.

These are people who are here legally.

What do you want? I mean, we know what you want – you want to look around and not see people who aren’t white but jesus dude.

The people who aren’t here legally – take em out. Try to come here legally – who cares. You gotta go too!

Israel in Iran

-via CBS News

After officials began taking US diplomats and dependents out of the Middle East without any real reason given, Thursday morning (and actually late Wednesday night) finally appeared to shed some light as Israel is prepared to launch an operation in Iran, with the US believing Iran will, as promised, retaliate against US military bases in Iraq.

To which I would reply… hey, could you please not?

We have our own thing going on here. And that thing is not going well.

We just, like, don’t need more things.

The plate, she is a full.

When asked why officials were being pulled from the Middle East on Wednesday, Trump said: “You’ll have to see.”

What? That is literally what you say when it’s sweeps season and you ask what a TV show has planned! Tune in.

Be normal!

I realize that is asking for the sky to be skittles but could you just, please, try? Once? Even on accident?

By Thursday evening (Friday morning in Iran), Israel had already begun carrying out strikes against Iran’s capital, raising the potential for an all-out war.

The leader Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard was killed in the attack.

Israeli leaders said this was necessary to prevent what they have described as the imminent threat of Iran building nuclear bombs.

Israel’s Netanyahu said on YouTube (YouTube? Shouldn’t he be on like… the news? Or somewhere more official? Why is that so weird to me?) Anyway, he said on YouTube that these attacks will continue until the threat of a nuclear weapon is removed.

In a statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said,  “We are not involved in strikes against Iran, and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region.”

This is all breaking as I’m recording this.

And that’s it. That’s the news.

Quick heads up.

Fifty-fifty chance there will be no news on Monday. I just gotta be honest. Listen, I’m going to have myself a nice little weekend away, and I might want to just relax on Sunday night.

I’m proud of protests! And the First Amendment! We still have it. We get to do this. We get to protest. And yes, some people get to use it to say things we do agree with. Having a First Amendment means sometimes we’re going to be annoyed. Having a First Amendment means sometimes the president is going to have people protesting his birthday parade.

He can talk about it in therapy.

And because you use your First Amendment right to say all the very best things… I’m proud of you.
