Good morning! It’s Thursday, June 12th.
On this day in 1967, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mildred and Richard Loving and made interracial marriage legal in all 50 states.
Writing for the majority, Chief Justice Warren said this: “Under our Constitution, the freedom to marry or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual and cannot be infringed by the State.”
One day we’ll have to explain to our kids that we used to have a Supreme Court, and sometimes they were actually good. The youths will not believe it.
And now, the news.
Update: Los Angeles
-via AP News, ABC News
Starting of course in Los Angeles, where no one worry… we are still in a police state!
On Wednesday, Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman told the Associated Press that the National Guard had already detained some civilians. And everyone was like – hey uh oh. That’s not allowed. That’s really bad.
Turns out – nope. Just some classic misunderstanding.
That’s a giant misunderstanding of a federal law!
Fear not. They’re not currently overstepping federal law by arresting civilians. Yet.
“We are doing rehearsals with these groups of agents that are doing these missions. A crawl, walk, run rehearsal, if you will, so that we fully understand their operations.”
Great.
As long as, whilst you’re doing you’re police state training, you’ve passed the crawl part of the training.
Now, Sherman did note that this is a hard mission for the troops and all jokes about how we’re in the middle of a hostile government takeover – I would have to imagine so.
“This tests any soldier or Marine on their morals, on their patriotism, on what our country stands for. So this is not easy.”
Okay. Great news dude. You actually did not have to overstep state rights because a man who has been impeached twice, once for insurrection!!, is bored and failing at everything else in his second term, is just looking for a reason to invoke, of all things, the Insurrection Act.
I should note that Sherman did not send the troops there. But he is the commander of the troops.
Speaking of the time Trump did insurrection!
On Wednesday, AG Pam Bondi said the protests in Los Angeles are very different than the time people did insurrection.
For one thing – January 6th was in the name of someone white.
…
What Bondi actually said was, "These are people out there hurting people in California right now. This is ongoing."
We’re fine! We don’t need you here! Please go away! You’re being so weird about California! Stop being so obsessed with us!
Protests have also started in Texas. Fear not – Governor Abbott has already called in the National Guard there. Called them in before the protests. Imagine wanting to suck up to Trump this badly!
Here’s the thing though – I can judge but at least this isn’t against the state’s wishes. The state voted for this guy for governor (more than once!) and this is what the governor chose to do. This was the state’s decision.
That’s the difference between what’s happening here in Los Angeles and what’s happening in Texas.
Here, the federal government overstepped. That’s why this is a police state, and there, they are being aided by the National Guard.
When asked where the National Guard would be stationed, Governor Abbott said, “There are others outside of this room who would like to know that. And I’m not going to tell them.”
That man is a grown adult.
And that’s what you missed on Glee!
Mahmoud Khalil

But let’s talk about other ways that Trump has overstepped the Constitution!
A judge has ruled that Mahmoud Khalil cannot be detained or deported back to Columbia simply because he exercised his First Amendment right whilst also being not white.
The ruling will not immediately take effect. The administration has until Friday morning to respond.
Obviously they’re going to respond and it’s going to be annoying but in the meantime – we gotta take out wins where we can get em!
US Embassy Staff Removed
-via BBC
On Wednesday, without really stating the reason why, all non-essential US embassy staff and their dependents were evacuated from the Middle East. It is believed this is due to stalled talks over nuclear program.
Could also be because Iran threatened to target US military bases if conflict breaks out out there.
So who knows!
Could be anything!
And isn’t that the magic of this time in our lives?
Israel Resistance
-via The Guardian
Here’s something incredible – in a letter addressed to Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu on Wednesday, 41 anonymous members of the Israel Defense Forces’ intelligence directorate, who have played a key role in what’s happening in the Gaza Strip, particularly in selecting bombing targets, have said they can no longer take part in what they called an “unnecessary, eternal war.” They also called the government’s orders “clearly illegal.”
“When a government acts for ulterior motives, harms civilians and leads to the killing of innocent people, the orders it issues are clearly illegal, and we must not obey them.”
This won’t change what Netanyahu is going to do, but you better believe it helps to add to the continued lack of public support in Israel.
Because as has been mentioned… this is a war between the government of Israel and Hamas.
It is deeply unpopular within the country.
Super brave!

And finally, because… just because…
Apparently, today there is a bipartisan picnic at the White House (who’s going to that? Which democrat is like it’s fine that you’re doing fascism? I will go to your picnic?)
Anyway, Rand Paul has been very upset about the upcoming One Big Beautiful Bill, because it’s terrible and will add millions to the deficit.
And so now he’s been uninvited to the picnic!
He says this, this!, is how he’s lost “a lot of respect” for Trump.
This??
“The level of immaturity is beyond words.”
I… I mean, you could probably find words if you wanted. I know I can. I do, often in fact.
Do you really think they could possibly be mature about anything? They are doing police state in Hollywood because we didn’t give Trump a big enough roll in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York!
It’s not beyond words. You could find them.
Be brave.
Find the words.
Beyond words.
No it’s not!!
And that’s it. That’s the news.
I’m proud of… not of this bipartisan picnic. I don’t care about that.
But I am proud of picnics in general. Fresh air. Being outside.
That’s nice.
You’re nice.
And because of that – I’m proud of you.
