Title

Good morning! It’s Friday, October 16th.

Global Cat Day and National Liqueur Day

Two days for Ruth!! (Ruth loves a melon liqueur drink. They’re not for me, but I love that she’s experimenting with recipes)

And now, the news.

Bend Oregon Shooting

-via CBS News

We start how we start here in America with at least four people killed and others injured (at least two critically) after a shooter, who is also dead, opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon.

Three of those killed are kids. 5, 8, and 11.

The shooter was 16 years old and was shot by a bystander who also had a gun.

This story is awful.

Babies. Those are babies.

They’re all babies! 16? And shot by someone who happened to have a gun?

A heartbreak all around.

Matt Gaetz

-via Politico

Matt Gaetz, the former House rep from Florida, who gained popularity because he was one of Trump’s biggest supporters in the House (if you can’t picture him, picture someone whose face is too big for his head) but left the House after Trump nominated him as US AG, but then the nomination fell apart after a House Ethics Committee threatened to release a report that included allegations of drugs, paying for sex (including with a 17-year-old), and obstruction of justice (all bad stuff but he still spoke at CPAC this year because this republican party isn’t afraid to give a sex offender a thousand chances…

Do you… remember that guy?

On Thursday, two women accused him of doing… well doing exactly what lost him his AG job.

The suit alleges that Gaetz and two other men (a former Seminole County Tax Collector and a former legislator) “coordinated the recruitment, payments, drugs and travel to obtain commercial sex acts” from at least two women who were in their early twenties.

Gaetz denies the claims, but his buddy, the former tax collector, is serving an 11-year sentence after pleading guilty to offenses that include wire fraud and sex trafficking of a minor.

When asked for a comment, Kevin McCarthy said: hi! Remember me?? I told you that guy was bad news!

Kevin McCarthy… proof that even dummies can be right every once in a while.

Look, here’s the deal. I think we gotta wrap the news today.

Not because of any other reason other than the point of this show is to not be like all the other 24/7 news. Don’t to let the news weigh you down for the sake of clicks and views.

This story out of Bend is hard. And it should be. It shouldn’t be so common but it just because it’s common doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be heavy. We can’t let this be something that we get used to.

It’s the 289th day of the year and this was the 371st mass shooting of the year.

So we’re taking a shorter episode. Go see people you love and things you like.

Go register to vote.

I’m proud of you.
